Raymond John Swanton passed away on January 22, 2016 at Legacy House in Logan, Utah at the age of 86. He was born on November 20, 1929 to Earl and Sylvia (Kubley) Swanton of Monroe, Wisconsin.
Ray grew up in Monroe, Wisconsin. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served in a Construction and Communications group in Iceland, Okinawa, and Utah. Throughout his life, Ray had many occupations. He was a contractor in Florida, a ranch hand in Nevada, and ultimately a maintenance supervisor of a state park in Nevada, where he retired after 20 plus years of service.
Ray married Ida Durtschi on January 12, 1957 at the St. John's Church in Monroe, Wisconsin. They were happily married for 59 years. They were blessed to have one son, John. Ray loved making beautiful furniture and always had a meticulous woodshop. He also enjoyed model trains and collecting antique steel wheel tractors. Ray's favorite pastime was to spend time with his grandchildren, who he supported in any sport or activity they participated in.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Allen and Lyle), and two sisters (Eileen and Dorothy).
He is survived by his wife Ida of Nibley, Utah; his son John (Rachel) Swanton of Nibley, Utah; his sister Vera (Robert) Aebly of Freeport, Illinois; his grandson Jacob Swanton serving a mission for the LDS church in the Philippines; his grandsons Michael and Ethan Swanton and his granddaughter Adeline Swanton of Nibley, Utah.
A memorial service will be held at the Nibley Gardens LDS church at 2825 South 1000 West in Nibley, Utah at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Logan Regional Hospital Foundation for the Cancer Center in his name at 1400 North 500 East, Logan, Utah 84341.
