ALBANY Area police departments are stepping up enforcement now through Labor Day to crack down on drunk drivers.

The effort is part of a national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign and runs Friday, Aug. 17 through Monday, Sept. 3.

Participating agencies include the Albany, Belleville and New Glarus Police Departments.

"If you're driving while impaired, we will arrest you," said Sgt. James Placek of the Albany Police Department. "The devastating consequences of a drunken driving arrest include major embarrassment, expensive penalties, mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device on all your vehicles, and possibly jail time.

Drunk driving will be a decision you'll regret the rest of your life, if you're lucky enough to live."
