Monroe Police

MONROE - On Tuesday, Aug. 28:

- Christopher S. Meritt, 21, Monroe, was arrested and jailed after police responded to a series of complaints. At 6:22 a.m., a resident in the 2700 block of 8 1/2th Street reported that a man was in front of the residence, behaving oddly, digging through garbage and leaving a mess. Police located Meritt inside a nearby apartment. Witnesses identified him as the man in question. He had reportedly been drinking. Officers cited him for prowling, took him home and released him to a family member. At 7:36 a.m., police responded to call reporting that Meritt was back trespassing in the same apartment complex. This time he was arrested on a charge of trespassing and jailed. At 8:17 a.m., police took a report that cash and a case of cosmetology products/tools had been stolen from a vehicle in the same block. Police are investigating a possible connection to Meritt.

- A property owner in the 700 block of 17th Avenue was issued a warning notice at 1:12 p.m. to mow tall grass and weeds.

- A cellphone was reported lost in Honey Creek Park, 1077 4th Ave. W., at 1:45 p.m.

- A gas drive-off of $36.51 was reported at 7:19 p.m. at Kwik Trip, 1019 9th St. The case is still under investigation.

- A resident in the 2300 block of 12th Street reported at 1:52 p.m. that a family member, a resident of Browntown, had lost more than $2,000 in a scam that originated from an ad on Craigslist. Police are investigating.

- Police took down yard sale signs in the city-owned terrace at the intersection of 20th Avenue and 16th Street at 2:31 p.m. It is a violation of city code to affix or erect signs on city property without a permit.

- A cellphone was found at Garden Deli, 1624 11th St., and turned over to police at 9:44 p.m. To claim, call dispatch at 329-2400.

Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - On Tuesday, Aug. 28:

- Donovan Taylor, 38, Browntown, was cited for speeding and driving without proof of vehicle insurance at 5 a.m. on Wisconsin 11 in the Town of Wayne.

- Nikki M. Komprood, 33, Gratiot, was cited for driving without proof of vehicle insurance at 5:59 a.m. on Wis. 11 in South Wayne.

- Shawn A. Paulson, 37, Monroe, was cited for driving without proof of vehicle insurance at 6:21 a.m. on Wis. 11 in the Town of Wayne.

- Gregory J. Schmoll, 53, Sycamore, Ill., was cited for speeding at 1:54 p.m. on Wis. 11 in the Town of Gratiot.

- Jeffrey S. J. Bennett, Jr., 29, Belmont, was cited for driving with a revoked license and keeping open intoxicants in a motor vehicle after deputies responded at 6:07 p.m. to a complaint of an erratic driver on County G in the Town of Belmont. Bennett was located at a residence in Belmont. Jessica M. Halvorson, 24, Belmont, was cited for obstructing an officer after she hindered the investigation.

- A deputy took a report at 7:43 p.m. that several items had been stolen during the previous night from vehicles parked at a residence on Wisconsin 78 in the Town of Blanchard. The incident remains under investigation.

Green County Sheriff

MONROE - On Tuesday, Aug. 28:

- Robert M. West, 49, Brodhead, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, battery, false imprisonment and intimidation of a witness at 8:56 a.m. after deputies investigated a domestic dispute that occurred in Brodhead. West was jailed.

- Ronald L. Albright, 51, Monroe, was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign after deputies responded at 11:33 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash with no injuries at Wisconsin 11 and Balls Mill Road. Albright was driving a semi-tractor and trailer northbound on Balls Mill Road when he stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Wis. 11. He then continued north pulling into the path of a westbound semi-tractor driven by Drew R. Solace, 23, Lena, Ill. Solace's vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage and was towed. Albright's vehicle was moderately damaged and driven from the scene.
