NEW GLARUS - Phillip L. Hustad, age 82, of New Glarus passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison. He was born on September 20, 1927 in Mt. Horeb, WI the son of Arthur and Ada Hustad. Phil graduated from New Glarus High School in 1945. Following his graduation from high school he served in the U.S. Air Force from January 22, 1946 to September 15, 1953. On December 5, 1953 Phil married Lorraine Elmer at Swiss Church in New Glarus. Phil then worked as a salesman for Frito Lay and Consolidated Freightways. Later he then worked as an advertising representative for the Post Messenger and Belleville Recorder, retiring four times. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Church in New Glarus. Phil enjoyed golfing, watching his grandchildren's sporting events, and auctions while on the hunt for duck themed memorabilia.

Phillip is survived by his wife of 57 years Lorraine, two sons Ricky of Belleville, WI and Rodney of Stoughton, WI, a daughter Cheryl (Donald Denure) Hustad of Albany, WI, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother Rolland (Doris) Hustad of New Glarus, a sister Ava Olds of Modesto, CA, sister-in-law Myrna Hustad of Gainesville, FL, and his canine buddy Ouija.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Jo Ann Hustad, and a brother Clayton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 12th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery with full military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at the VA hospitals in Madison and Tomah. A special thanks to Jon Karlen, RN, Ward 4A Nurse for his special care to dad and family during his last hours.

A memorial fund has been established.
