Philipp Henry Marty, M.D. longtime New Glarus physician passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg, WI. Born Sept. 2, 1924 Philipp attended New Glarus Public Schools graduating in 1942. He joined the United States Armed Forces in 1943 and attended the meteorology school at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. He served in India as part of the 10th Weather Squadron Army Air Forces as a meteorologist until his discharge in 1946. After his military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Medical Doctorate with honors in 1952. He was in family practice through the mid 1960's with Dr. Earl Hicks and served the town as the sole physician until the late 1970's. He then joined the Monroe Clinic until retiring in 1990.

During his medical internship in Oklahoma he met his future wife, Marjorie Molsbee. They were united in marriage on November 8, 1952 at her parent's home in Terral, Oklahoma.

They made New Glarus their home and raised six children (all living): Phillis (Jerry) Meisel, New Glarus; Philipp (Marsha) Marty, Madison; Katy Marty, Madison; Margaret (Ron) Cullen, Darlington; Jim (Adrienne) Marty, Franklin, WI; and Karl (Mindy) Marty, McFarland. Other family survivors include a great aunt, Phillis Conrad; and eight grandchildren: Lance, Lyndsay, Clint, Briana, Quinn, Claire, Olivia and Max.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Philipp and Florence; two brothers, Neal and Allen; and a son-in-law, David Kleeman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral home in New Glarus. Funeral services will be held at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, with burial following the service at the Swiss Church Cemetery. Father Ken Klink and Pastor Patty Marty are officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial funds may be given to the New Glarus Swiss United Church of Christ Church Organ Fund or Hospice Care Center, 5395 East Cheryl Pkwy, Madison, WI 53711.
