Paul W. Gruenberg, age 84 of Monroe, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on August 14, 1926 in rural Browntown, the son of Fred and Marie (Gehrke) Gruenberg. Paul married June Thoman on June 26, 1948 in rural Monticello. Paul farmed for 27 years with his brother Gerhardt, then did construction work for 20 years and ended up driving truck for 16 years for Monroe Truck Equipment. He was proud of the fact that he worked till he was 78 years old. He belonged to St. John's United Church of Christ, formerly a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #754 and Smith Lodge #31 F & AM. Paul enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, June of Monroe; 2 children: Ron (Joan) Gruenberg of Monroe, Marilyn R. (friend Karen) Gruenberg of New Glarus; a brother, Walter Gruenberg of Milwaukee; a sister, Erma Thomas of Battle Creek, MI; a grandson, Paul Gruenberg of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, November 1, 2010 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home; with Rev. William T. "Mike" Heath officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
