Paul O. Monson, age 97 of Wiota, WI, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, WI, surrounded by his family. He was born October 16, 1912 in Wiota Township in Lafayette County, the son of Martin and Clara (Brenum) Monson. Paul graduated from Argyle High School in 1931. He was united in marriage to Bernice C. Vinger on January 19, 1937 at Wiota Lutheran Church Parsonage. Paul and Bernice lived and farmed in Wiota Township all of their lives.

Paul is survived by four children: Donald P. Monson of Darlington, E. Gayle Monson of rural South Wayne, WI, David L. (Libby) Monson of rural Argyle, WI, and Joyce (David) Bevan of Platteville, WI; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother: Cecil Monson of Freeland, WA; and one sister: Lucile Bisegger of Wiota. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Bernice on December 3, 2006; two sons: Phillip Monson on March 15, 1971 and Gary Monson on February 2, 2007; one great-granddaughter in infancy; one daughter-in-law: Kate Monson on April 25, 2005; one brother-in-law: Jacob Bisegger; and one sister-in-law: Alice Monson.

Paul was a member of Wiota Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway Venelag 513 of Mount Horeb, Hadeland Loget, and Lafayette County Historical Society. He enjoyed traveling and vacationing in the 48 contiguous United States. Paul went to Norway three times and saw the Midnight Sun. He also looked forward to seeing the lighting celebration of the Platteville "M."

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Road 78 in rural Wiota with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman of Apple Grove Lutheran Church in rural Argyle officiating. Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, November 20, 2009 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
