NEW GLARUS - Police are advising residents that calendar parking begins Nov. 15 in New Glarus.

Also known as alternate-side parking, the ordinance requires anyone parking on a village street to park on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered days and on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days.

These winter parking rules allow for snow removal and stay in effect until March 31.

Enforcement begins at 1 a.m. each day, so anyone parking for the night before then is advised to bear in mind the following day's date.

Some areas of New Glarus are exempt from calendar parking, including streets with no parking on one side.

Sergeant Jeff Sturdevant urges residents not to wait until after getting a citation to dispute it. If a vehicle cannot be moved in accordance with the ordinance, contact police the night before with your request.

Call the police department at (608) 527-2145 with any questions or concerns.
