DARLINGTON - Police are reminding drivers not to block public sidewalks with their vehicles.
The Darlington Police Department reports an increased number of citizen complaints that parked cars blocking sidewalks are posing a safety hazard to pedestrians, bicyclists, runners and others.
Parked vehicles blocking sidewalks violate a local ordinance and a state law punishable by a $144.50 fine and two points off a driver's license.
The police department is issuing the reminder "with hope vehicle owners will voluntarily comply thereby avoiding ticketing."
To report a violation or ask a question regarding the law, call police dispatch at 776-4980.
