BRODHEAD - Norman L. Truman, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 10, 2008, in Janesville, following his return from vacation. He was born on May 15, 1934 in Rockford, IL, the son of Howard and Genevieve (Gleasman) Truman. He married Violet F. (Malcook) Covert on January 27, 1979 at the Methodist Church in Brodhead.

Norman had worked for Honeywell of Freeport, IL for 18 years as a computer programmer. He also had worked for Barber-Coleman and was a herdsman for 7 years for Mooseheart Child City. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the United Methodist Church of Brodhead. He loved restoring old machinery, gardening, fishing, and an avid history buff.

Norman is survived by his wife, Violet; children, Shirley (Duane) Welte, Aurora, IL, Phyllis (Mike) Bauch, Dean (Debbie) Truman, both of Freeport, IL; step-children, David (Jackie) Covert, Alan Covert, Tami (Ken) Jacobson, all of Brodhead, Susan (Chris) Kneen, North Branch, MN;, twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Justin Covert.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Steve Groves officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the D. L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, and on Thursday from noon until time of services at the church. A memorial fund will be established at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, in Norman's name.
