Neva E. Johnson, age 88, of Darlington, WI, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born June 22, 1925 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Stanley and Edna (Schliem) Johnson. Neva grew up in South Wayne and graduated from South Wayne High School in 1943. Neva taught in several rural schools before earning her degree in teaching from Platteville Teachers College. Following her graduation from college she taught 3rd Grade in Sun Prairie, WI, for 43 years. After her retirement in 1986 she moved to Fayette. In 2003, she moved to Sienna Crest in Darlington and later to Lafayette Manor in 2006.
Neva is survived by four nieces: Kris (John) Kullberg of Rockford, Trudy (Dan) Clark, and Heidi (Lee) McCarville both of Mineral Point, and Jody (Dick) Tuescher of Darlington; one nephew: Scott Geissbuhler of Darlington, 11 great-nieces and nephews and 6 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister: Verlene Geissbuhler on December 21, 2002.
Neva was a member of Fayette United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Alumni. She was a true foodie and enjoyed cooking and collecting recipes. Neva also looked forward to talking with her friends on the phone and was an avid sports fan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Fayette United Methodist Church, 11013 County Highway F in rural Darlington with Rev. Irv Case of Lamont United Methodist Church in rural Darlington, WI, officiating. Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery in rural Gratiot, WI. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
