Nathan "Nate" Garwell, age 76 of Monroe, died on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on December 21, 1936 in Juda, the son of Ralph and Edna (Kolb) Garwell. Nate and Donna (March) were married on November 8, 1958.
Nate was a member of the National Guard and in 1961 was called to active duty at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington where he served during the Berlin Crisis. Upon returning to the area Nate worked for Monroe Ready Mix for over 40 years, semi- retiring in 1999. He was a past member of Martintown Community Church where he served on the church council. Nate was a long time Browntown Village President, served on the fire department for many years with two terms as fire chief, and also served as Scout Master for Troop #109. Nate enjoyed the outdoors, raising sheep, meeting with the usual crew for morning coffee, but his true love was spending time with his family.
Nate is survived by his wife Donna of Monroe; sons, Dan Garwell of Argyle; Tim (Amy) Garwell of Monroe; and three grandchildren: Maisie, Dayne and Josie Garwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard "Butch" Garwell and Ralph Garwell.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Monroe Bible Church 2613 8th Ave. in Monroe with Lowell Stuessy officiating. Burial will follow at Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to service at the church.
A memorial fund is being established in Nathan's memory.
