Nancy L. Heilman, 53, of Freeport, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 in F.H.N. Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born August 8, 1956 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herbert and Lyla (Ellefson) Kraus.
On May 23, 1981 Nancy married Bradley Heilman at Monroe, Wisconsin.
Mrs. Heilman's work career began at Swiss Colony. She was later employed as assistant cook at Carl Sandburg School, Empire School, Center School and later as head cook at Taylor Park School. She was known to students as "Miss Nancy." Nancy treated the school children as if they were her kids. Nancy was also a consultant for Home Show Hostess and Upper Case Living.
Nancy was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and a member of the United Steel Workers.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Bradley; two sons, Brandon Heilman of Monroe, Wisconsin and Seth Heilman of Freeport; her parents of Monroe, Wisconsin; one brother, Lyle (Cheryl) Kraus of Monroe, Wisconsin; her mother-in-law, Marilyn Ruthe of Freeport; her brother-in-law, Dave (Pamela) Heilman, Loves Park, Ill.; four sisters-in-law, Diane Heilman and Karen Tucker, both of Freeport, and Barbara (Pete) Martinez and Deb (Joe) Thomas, both of San Antonio, Texas; her nieces and nephews, Heather Boyett, Dane Thomas, Bob and Josie Heilman, Danielle Erner, Nicole Stender and Sarah Martinez.
Celebration of Nancy's Life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Lutheran Church, 303 S. Galena Ave., Freeport. The Rev. Keith Johnson, pastor, will officiate. Lunch will follow in the church lower level after the service. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 N. Walnut Ave., Freeport.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center, Freeport.
Family burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
