MONROE - A Monroe man involved in a hit-and-run accident Aug. 8 made his initial appearance Monday in Green County Circuit Court.
Coty D.D. Sweet, 19, is charged with fleeing an officer causing bodily harm, a class H felony; reckless driving, drunken driving causing injury, and driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration, all unclassified misdemeanors; and obstructing an officer, a class A misdemeanor. He faces more than nine years in prison and up to $26,000 in fines, if convicted.
He remains free on a $2,700 signature bond and a $300 cash bond.
Court records allege a Brodhead Police officer tried to stop Sweet's vehicle at about 11 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of First Center Avenue.
Sweet increased his speed and subsequently failed to stop at a stop sign at 19th Street and County GG and the vehicle hit a tree. His passenger sustained minor injuries.
Sweet then fled on foot and was later located by the Green County Sheriff's K-9 unit.
