MONROE - A Monroe man with three drunk-driving convictions was arrested again on the same charge after officers stopped him for speeding on the city's south side.

Robert L. Wedig, 47, faces a fourth-offense misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, two misdemeanor counts resisting arrest and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Wedig was speeding 46 mph in a 25 mph zone in the 1100 block of 21st Street when a Green County deputy stopped him, according to Sheriff Jeff Skatrud.

Wedig reportedly gave the deputy and an assisting Monroe police officer a wrong date of birth and incorrect name for himself, then was physically resistant as they were arresting him.

He was taken to the Monroe Clinic for a blood draw to determine his blood-alcohol levels.

In court Monday, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His signature bond was set at $2,000 on the resisting and disorderly conduct charges and at $1,000 on the fourth-offense DWI charge, with the conditions that he not drink or enter establishments that sell primarily alcohol.

His next court appearance is scheduled Feb. 5.

Court records indicate Wedig was convicted of causing injury by driving while intoxicated in November 1994 in Rock County. His second and third DWI convictions are for arrests in August 2002 and October 2003, both in Dane County.
