Merlin O. Paulson, age 87 of Argyle, WI, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at The Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI. He was born January 16, 1922 in rural Blanchardville, WI, the son of Oscar and Helga (Jacobson) Paulson. Merlin was united in marriage on April 20, 1942 to Priscilla Peterson at York Lutheran Church in Blanchardville. He grew up in the Blanchardville area, where he farmed on the Paulson family farm until 1949. Merlin and Priscilla moved to Jordan Township in Green County, where they have resided since. He retired in 1979.
Merlin is survived by his wife: Priscilla at home; three children: Randall (Judy) Paulson of Plano, TX, Connie (Jeff) Williams of Madison, WI, and Marsha (John) Soper of Argyle, WI; nine grandchildren: Teri (John) Whitbeck, Kristin (Ryan) Shopp, Ashley (Chuck) Collum, Nikki Paulson, Lori Paulson, Chandon Williams, Lachlyn Soper, Sarah Soper, and Anna Soper; five great-grandchildren: Kyle and Megan Whitbeck, Aiden Williams, Maxwell Soper, and Travis Shopp; two sisters: Hazel Nelson of Barneveld, WI and Adeline Nelson of Daleyville, WI; one brother-in-law: Milford Updike of Janesville, WI; and two sisters-in-law: Henrietta Paulson of Belleville, WI, and Lavonne Erickson of Blanchardville. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Terene Paulson on August 29, 1945 and Rodney Paulson on May 31, 2005; three brothers: Olin, Julian, Orion Paulson; and two sisters: Evelyn Updike and Gladys Paulson.
Merlin was a member of Argyle Lutheran Church and served on its Church Council. He was a member of Jordan Township Board for a number of years. Merlin enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing euchre, and dancing. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Argyle Lutheran Church, 100 East Street in Argyle, WI with Rev. John Shep officiating. Burial will be at York Memorial Cemetery.
