Merlin C. Emberson

Merlin C. Emberson, age 84 of rural Argyle, WI, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, February 14, 2008. He was born on August 31, 1923, the son of Henry and Gilma (Peterson) Emberson in rural Blanchardville, WI. He graduated from Argyle High School in 1941. At the age of 2 his family moved to the farm in rural Argyle where later he and his wife lived and farmed. Merlin was united in marriage to Virginia E. Thompson on June 7, 1952 at Blanchardville Lutheran Church.

Merlin was a dedicated lifetime member of Adams Lutheran Church and served on many church committees and was a Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was a director at Mid-Am and a past member of Adams Township Board. Merlin was also a 4-H leader for the Dougherty Creek 4-H club. Merlin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his quick wit and funny stories. He also enjoyed being outside checking on the crops and his boys with the four wheeler.

Merlin is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; three children: Harlan (Brenda) Emberson of rural Argyle, Sharon (Duane) Steiner of Lancaster, WI, and Steve Emberson of rural Argyle; three grandchildren: Carrie Steiner, Amanda Emberson and Bryon Emberson; one brother-in-law: Owen (Ruth) Thompson of Darlington, WI; one sister-in-law: Delores Emberson of Bloomington, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Curtis Emberson, in 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Adams Lutheran Church in Adams Township with Rev. Thomas Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Erickson Funeral Home, Argyle.
