Maxine LaVonne McGonigle Neahring, 89, died on December 3, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born in Walnut Illinois on November 8, 1919 to Wilson Smee and Jessie Fidella (George) McGonigle. She married Claude Martin Neahring on December 13, 1941 in Sterling, Illinois.

Maxine was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse graduating from the Sauk Valley School of Nursing, Sterling, IL. She retired from Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon, IL. She moved to Monroe after the death of her husband in 1996. She enjoyed reading, gardening and her church work.

She was a lifelong member of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) before moving to Monroe. She was baptized at the Walnut Christian Church. In Monroe, she joined the United Methodist Church.

She was a volunteer at the Monroe Senior Center, The Monroe Clinic, and Borderline as well as her church. In Dixon, she volunteered with the Red Cross, her church and the Dixon Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Iva Covill Gloden, a brother, Wilson Sterling McGonigle and her parents.

She is survived by her daughter, The Rev. Claudia S.M. (Patrick) Hogan, Eau Claire, WI and a nephew, John McGonigle of Walnut, IL.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Clare Friedensheim or the Monroe Senior Center.
