Mary Ann Zimmerman age 78 of Sun Prairie, formerly of Monticello, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Willows Nursing Home, Sun Prairie. Mary Ann was born August 26, 1934 in Marshfield, WI, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Jenneman) Schmitz. She spent her early years growing up at the U.W. experiment station where her father worked as head herdsman. Mary Ann graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and married Dwight H. Zimmerman on October 15, 1955 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. The couple farmed in Exeter Township, Green County, from 1956 until Dwight's death on March 1, 1994. She has resided in Sun Prairie since the fall of 1994.
Mary Ann was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church and more recently St. Albert's Parish in Sun Prairie. She was involved with the Green County Extension Homemakers and card club in Monticello. She enjoyed learning the game of bridge, camping, golfing, making big family meals, traveling, showing the family slides, and telling ghost stories. Mary Ann was very determined and proud that she could attend her only granddaughter's wedding on Sept. 15.
She is survived by four children, Elizabeth (Chris) Keadle of Waukesha, WI, Juanita (Bill) Letlebo of DeForest, Dan Zimmerman of Oak Creek, WI, and Stuart Zimmerman of Sun Prairie; and four grandchildren, Eric Letlebo, Jason Letlebo, Klarissa (Ben) Mueller, and Kevin Keadle. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Irene Kraus in 1987, Lorraine Schmitz in 1994, James Schmitz in 1994, Helen Tremmel in 1998, and Lillian Schiller in 2012.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Michael Klarer, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in her name.
