SOUTH WAYNE - Marvin O. Akins Sr., age 91, South Wayne, WI, passed away on Tuesday July 14, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on September 21, 1917 at his home in South Wayne to Clyde and Olive (Owens) Akins. He married Marvel Verburgt at St. Mary's Church in Portage, WI, on June 29, 1963. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Class of 1940. He taught at the college level for 1 year in West Virginia. He then moved home and became a lifelong farmer. His greatest pride was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Marvin Jr. (Sue Cash) Akins of Monroe, WI, and Martin (Jerri) Akins of South Wayne, WI; five grandchildren: Heather, Amanda, Michaela and Meshell, all of South Wayne, WI and Martin Jr. of Monroe, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Virginia Akins.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 18, 2009 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Warren.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday July 18, 2009 at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father Max Striedl.
Burial will be at St. Ann's Cemetery in Warren, IL.
A memorial has been established in his name.
