Marian E. Ackermann age 93 of Monroe, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Marian was born on March 30, 1921, the youngest of eight children to Charles and Margaret (Indergand) Goecks. Her brothers and sisters would often remind Marian of having to carry her through snow covered fields as a small girl. She attended Buckskin Country School where she enjoyed playing baseball especially as a pitcher. She later attended Monroe High School before her marriage to Harold L. Ackermann on October 21, 1943. Marian and Harold farmed for many years in Sylvester Township and she also worked as a clerk at Lee's Dress Shop on the Monroe square. Following Harold's death on January 30, 1984, Marian worked part time putting together the papers at the Monroe Shopping News. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe Woman's Club, Eagle's Club, Green County Homemakers, and a 45-year member of Women of the Moose Chapter #599. Marian's love was her family and she always wanted to be kept up to date on what everyone was doing. She eagerly waited to know the scores of baseball, football, and basketball games. She loved listening to her great grandkid's recitals and concerts, and wanted to know whose calf earned a ribbon at the fair. Playing Old Maid with handmade cards always brought smiles for all. Making sure everyone had enough to eat and having blue juice on hand was a must. Everyone will miss her sense of humor and joke telling including her neighbors, Mary and Jeff. Marian's nightly talks with her sister-in-law, Charlotte Ackermann, were always about which one was going to pick up the other even though neither one drove. They liked to talk and laugh about where they were going to go.

She is survived by her three children, Patra (David) Smith of Monroe, Craig (Sharon) Ackermann of Argyle, and Marci (Larry) Ziltener of Monroe; grandchildren, Lance (Karla) Smith, Jason (Jennifer) Smith, Kara (Todd) Abraham, Brandon (Melanie) Ackermann; a step-granddaughter, Erica Brownell; great grandchildren, Nathan, Elise, and Erja Smith, Joshua and Jenna Smith, Jared and Macie Abraham, and Paizley Ackermann; step-great grandchildren, Sam, Ryan, Hunter, Gavin, and Zoey; her sister, Belva Zwygart; and sisters-in-law, Inez Goecks and Charlotte Ackermann, all of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Herbert O. and Fred (Oral) Goecks; sisters, Grace (Allie) Holtshopple, Hazel (Werner) Rutsch, Sally (Hervey) Hoesly, and Frieda (Frank) Kundert; and a brother-in-law, Doran Zwygart.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint John's United Church of Christ with Rev. Tiff Bates officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Marian's name to St. John's UCC, Green County EMS and Pleasant View Gardens. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
