Marguerite P. (Zimmerman) Whitehead

Marguerite P. (Zimmerman) Whitehead, age 93, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Monroe, died on November 11, 2012 at McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville, SC.

She was born September 3, 1919 in Spring Grove, Wisconsin to Elvin and Lillas (Rocky) Zimmerman. She married Harold Whitehead on June 10, 1939.

She worked in the Green County Welfare Department from 1958 until 1967, and retired from The Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds, Madison in 1981. They retired to Florida in 1982 and moved to Greenville, SC in 1989.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Krattiger of Phoenix AZ, and Deborah (David) Goetz of Greenville, SC.; one nephew, Curt Schwerin of Monroe; two nieces, Janet Weimar of Wauwatosa, Wis, Jeanine (Wall) Robertson of Chicago, IL; a brother-in-law, Arthur Wall of Schaumberg, Ill.; 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Marie (Marvin "Pete") Schwerin of Monroe and Irene (Arthur) Wall of Schaumburg, IL.

Mitzi loved to garden, read, sew, paint, travel and do needlework. She photographed every trip, family event, and neighborhood occasion. She cared for all the stray cats in her Greenville neighborhood and learned to swim when she was 55 years old, so she could swim with her grandchildren.

Her great grandchildren brought her much happiness during the last two years of her life. They loved to visit her and ride in her wheelchair.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greenville, SC. The family wants to thank her long time caregiver and friend, Sue Valentine and the caring staff of McCall Hospice House.

A private family graveside service was held. Memorials may be given to WoundedWarriorsProject.org. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, assisted the family.
