Margaret Laverne (Sanders) Zach passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 26, 2016, in the loving care of family and the staffs at River View Lodge and Heartland Hospice.
Margaret was born February 27, 1925 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Diedrich) Sanders.
She graduated in 1942 from Nicolet High School in De Pere, Wisconsin and received a Nursing Degree from Marquette University School of Nursing in Milwaukee in 1946. She worked for the Visiting Nurse Association and at St. Michael Hospital in Milwaukee until her marriage.
Margaret married Robert G. Zach on June 25, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. While a medical student at Marquette University, Robert had spotted her in Gesu Church, and he told his friend "this is the girl I'm going to marry." Robert and Margaret settled in Monroe in 1954 and in Wausau in 1991. In 2011 Margaret moved to River View Lodge Assisted Living in Stevens Point.
While in Monroe, Margaret raised five boys with love and understanding. She encouraged curiosity in her sons (and accepted the consequences!) as they learned about nature through their collective rural adventures. Margaret was a hospital volunteer at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe. An early adopter of the home computer (her "monster machine"), she enjoyed doing genealogy research for her family. She was a member of the Monroe sewing and china-painting clubs. A talented writer and artist, Margaret created many canvasses and ceramics that are treasured by her family.
Margaret is survived by sons James (Susan) in Custer, WI; Richard (Kathy), Hazel Green; John (Jen), Stevens Point; David, Milwaukee and Michael (Karen), Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by grandchildren: Jennifer, John, Jill (Eric) Bailey, Sarah, Joseph, Shane, Rachel and Lauren. She is further survived by sister-in-law, Dee Sanders, nephew Greg Sanders and his family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, and a brother Donald.
The Funeral Mass will be at 3:00 PM Friday, January 29, 2016 at Newman University Center, 2108 4th Avenue, Stevens Point with Rev. Thomas Lindner officiating.
Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneral.net.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff at River View Lodge for the loving care that they showed to Margaret during her years there. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Carol Rave and the nurses and staff of Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care.
