Margaret Idell (Gill) Olsen, age 92, of Monroe died Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe.
Margaret (Margie) was born August 18, 1924, in Belleville, Wisconsin, to William Earl (1892-1946) and Edith Leona (Kildow) Gill (1895-1932). The early death of her mother, with Margaret, her brother, and three sisters being either raised or adopted by other family members and friends, created her special appreciation of family. Margaret was raised by Mae Howard until she was 13 years old. Then she went to live with Mae's sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Elmer Best. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1942. She worked at the Belleville Post Office for several years and married Eugene R. Olsen on June 10, 1952.
Margaret and Gene farmed in the Dayton-Belleville area until moving to Monticello in 1968, when they purchased a farm in Washington Township, Green County. In 1987 they moved to Monroe because of Gene's health. In 2002 Margaret became a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Margaret was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church where she organized many funeral luncheons throughout the years. She previously was an active member of Grace UMC in Belleville and Washington Reformation UCC in rural Monticello.
Survivors include daughters: Edith (Russell) Grossen of Brooklyn, WI and Nancy (Steve) Schulz of Monroe; grandchildren Travis (Jen) Grossen of Janesville and Nicole (Erik) Svensson of Stoughton; and 5 great-grandchildren: Matthew, Rachel and Joshua Grossen and Annika and Birgitta Svensson. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ina (Casey) Mayer, Freeport, IL and sister-in-law Betty Gill of Belleville and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene on May 2, 2006; brothers Robert Gill and John Gill; sisters: Lorene (Orville) Carpenter, Harriet Wilma Koprud (Bob) Klossner; and great-grandson, Benjamin Grossen.
