MONROE - A New Glarus man remains jailed on a $10,000 cash bond after making his initial appearance in Green County Circuit Court Monday for sexual assault charges.

David Mendez, 41, is charged with two counts of repeated sexual assault of a child, both class C felonies. He faces up to 80 years in prison and up to $200,000 in fines, if convicted.

Court records indicate between Sept. 1 and Feb. 20, 2007 he engaged in three or more acts of sexual assault by engaging in sexual contact with a teenage girl in New Glarus.

His preliminary hearing is March 14.
