BRODHEAD - The identity of a Brodhead man who was injured when a tire flew off a semi and hit his minivan Monday has been released.

Claude Ball told NBC 15 TV in Madison he slowed his vehicle and the tire smashed into the windshield.

A passenger in the vehicle told the television station that she and Ball were looking at the tire and then saw it go into the air and crash into the van.

Ball's phone number is not listed and he couldn't be reached for comment.

The incident happened Monday morning as Ball drove along Interstate 94 near Springdale Road in Waukesha County. Reports said a tanker truck carrying more than 8,000 gallons of gasoline lost two tires as it traveled down the road. One of the tires ended up on the side of the road. The other tire went across the median and hit the minivan, which sent glass into Ball's face.

He was treated and released at a nearby hospital. His three passengers, also from Brodhead, were not injured.

In January, a Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy was injured when a loose tire crashed into the windshield of his vehicle. In November, Krishna Chintamaneni, chief of staff for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-St. Francis, was killed when a wheel from a truck crashed through his windshield.
