FREEPORT - An 87-year-old Freeport man was killed in a two-vehicle accident just south of Freeport Tuesday, Aug. 6, according to the Stephenson County Sheriff's Department.
Leonard L. Otto was the passenger in a van driven by Esther A. Otto, also 87 and from Freeport. He was pronounced dead at the scene. She was flown by helicopter to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Deputies were called at 3:35 p.m. to the accident scene on Baileyville Road about a mile south of Lamm Road.
Regina A. Rodgers, 23, Freeport, was driving a red Mazda CX-9 southbound when she reportedly crossed the center line, striking the Ottos' van head-on. She was taken by Freeport Rural Ambulance to Freeport Memorial Hospital.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
