Lydia Rasmussen, age 85 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born November 19, 1922 in Maywood, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Gorr) Wiegel. She graduated from Medford High School and attended Business College in Chicago.
Lydia and Norman L. Rasmussen were married on March 22, 1944 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chicago and they moved to Monroe in 1954. Lydia was a bank teller at Commercial & Savings Bank for 13 years and then a seasonal worker at the Swiss Colony for 10 years in Monroe. Lydia was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose Chapter #599, VFW Post #2312 Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #84, all of Monroe. She enjoyed bowling, golf, pinochle, euchre, cross-stitch, knitting, sewing, and "Going West" to the Casinos.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Rasmussen of Madison, WI; granddaughter, Kirsten Endrizzi of Normal, IL; grandsons, Eric (Jamie) Wiltfang of Simi Valley, CA and Jason Wiltfang of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren, Austin, Makayla, Brooke, and Blake; brothers, Alex (Bobbie) Wiegel of Sacramento, CA and Jerry (Ann) Wiegel of Racine, WI; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wiegel of Medford, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Norman; sisters, Katie Wiegel and Sophie Carter; and brothers, Fred, Jr., Henry, and David Wiegel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Monroe with Pastor Ronald Massen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
A memorial fund is being established in Lydia's memory.
