OREGON/MONROE - Lucille M. Brown, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Oregon Manor. She was born on June 16, 1918, to Alfred and Julia Deininger of Monroe. Lucille attended Goodrich Country School in Monroe for eight years, walking a mile and a half to school. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1936, and Green County Normal in 1937. She taught at Goodrich School one year until it closed and then two years at Kelly School north of Albany. Lucille married Phillip H. Brown on Aug. 18, 1940, in Monroe. They farmed west of Monroe and she continued teaching two years at Twin Grove. Phillip died on Feb. 11, 2003. Lucille remained on the home farm until one year ago. Lucille aspired to carry on her mother's tradition of generous and thoughtful hospitality, community service, attention to detail, and recognizing the importance of family, friends, and neighbors. She was Brooklyn Township clerk from 1963 until 1983 and a teaching assistant at Brooklyn Elementary School from 1971 until 1977. She was an active member of the Brooklyn Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, participating in United Methodist Women, and serving her community. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, painting, and cooking. She quietly, efficiently, and lovingly made things happen, never seeking rewards.
