Lucille E. Vander Velden, age 99, of Monroe, died on October 19, 2016, at Graceland Manor in Monroe. She was born on June 27, 1917 in Brodhead, the daughter of Robert and Esther (Pagel) Zuhlke.

Lucille and Franklin Vander Velden were united in marriage on November 25, 1935 in the Methodist Church in Winslow, IL.

She farmed with her husband from 1935-1979; she also was employed at Pleasant View and Monroe Manor; and later was a Wal-Mart greeter from 1986-2006.

Lucille was a member of The Church of the Nazarene in Monroe and was a former member of the Monroe Moose Lodge. She enjoyed dancing, reading, sewing, but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Carol) Vander Velden, of Monroe; daughters, Deb (Andy) Buol and Kathleen Hudson both of Monroe; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Vivian Vander Velden.

She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Franklin; sons, Frank Vander Velden Jr., Phillip Vander Velden; daughter, Patti Jo Vander Velden, brother, Clarence Zuhlke, sisters, Wilma Sauer and Alice Zuhlke in infancy, grandsons, Kirby Vander Velden, Scotty Gardner, Curt and Brian Vander Velden and granddaughter, Charity Jo Soddy.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME in Monroe with Pastor Paul Watkins officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 23rd from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
