NEW GLARUS/MONTICELLO - Lucille B. Elmer, age 81, beloved mother and grandmother of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on April 8, 1927 to her parents, Leon C. and Martha (Theiler) Duerst, on the home farm in New Glarus Township. Lucille attended the Meadow Valley School and graduated from New Glarus High School in 1945. On October 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Henry J. Elmer at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. Lucille farmed with her husband in New Glarus Township for 34 years before moving to Monticello in 1982. She was a baptized and confirmed member of the Swiss United Church of Christ.
Lucille is survived by her three children: Ruth Elmer of New Glarus, Don (Jane) Elmer of New Glarus, and Jean Elmer of Mt. Horeb, five grandchildren Nicholas Elmer, Kyle and Kelsey Elmer, and Doug and Lacey Evanson.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997 and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. John Jewell and Pastor Petra Streiff officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.
A memorial fund has been established.
