Loren D. Elmer age 83 of Monroe, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Heritage Manor in Dubuque, Iowa. Loren was born March 20, 1929 in Monroe, the son of Henry H. and Ethyl (Green) Elmer. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1947. Loren and Lu Nevels were married on April 6, 1970. He worked as a stone cutter for Luchsinger Monuments for nineteen years and was employed at the Swiss Colony for twenty-nine years before retiring as Mailing Manager in 1994. Following his retirement he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for five years until his health declined. Loren was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1471.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna (Bruce) Marvin of Madison; a step-daughter, Patti Townsend of Cuba City; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Elmer of Janesville, and Curt (Nancy) Elmer of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lu, on May 3, 2012; a daughter, Barbara Copas; a sister, Dorothy Cameron; and brothers, George, Lee, Rodney, Ralph, Virgil, and Morris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Larry Bakke officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 21, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31ST. Ave., Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Loren's name.
