BRODHEAD - Lewis George Wheeler, age 70, of Brodhead, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 1, 1938 in Green County, Wisconsin, the son of George and Ella (Hulbert) Wheeler. He married Darlene L. Johnson on June 20, 1964 in Door County.
Lew graduated from Brodhead High School in 1957 and then entered the Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. Upon returning to Brodhead, he worked for Iverson Chevrolet for many years before purchasing Big A Auto Parts in 1979. He retired in 2003. Lew belonged to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead and the Brodhead American Legion Post. He was a past member of the Decatur Lake Country Club and enjoyed fishing and watching his granddaughter's sports activities.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Karin (Jeff) Duffield, Brodhead; a son, Craig (Michelle) Wheeler, Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters, Charlotte Bestor, Beloit, Shirley Oshaugnessy and Ann (Stan) Everson, both of Tucson, AZ; and a granddaughter, Meg, of Brodhead. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2009, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead. A memorial fund will be established. The D.L.
