LeVerne Robert Long, age 92 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Wood's Crossing in Brodhead. He was born February 18, 1916 at Woodbine, Illinois, the son of Adam and Edith (Weir) Long and attended Lena, IL schools.
LeVerne and Lillian Hale were married on October 12, 1936 in Elgin, IL and they farmed in Gratiot, WI and Warren, IL areas where he sold seed corn and fertilizer. They later owned Florine's in Monroe, WI. LeVerne was a former mayor of Warren, IL, member of Warren Lions Club and Warren Masonic Lodge, was past patron of the Warren Eastern Star, and attended Monroe United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Long of Brodhead, WI; daughters, Mandy (Ed) Pas of Monroe, WI and Vicki (Jim) Graham of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Angie (J.P.) Graham-Dherbey, Eric Graham, Alex Pas and great-granddaughters, Emma and Suzanna Dherbey. He was predeceased by his parents; infant son, Timothy; brothers, Ray, Verle, and Kenneth Long; and sisters, Loree Drane and Blanche Fieldstad.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Avenue in Monroe with Rev. Mary Gafner officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Warren, IL.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Green County Food Pantry or Monroe Woman's Club Christmas Stocking fund in LeVerne's memory would be appreciated by the family.
