LeRoy F. Walters, age 84 of Browntown, died Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on March 1, 1932 in Jordon Center Township, the son of Frank and Thelma (Bloom) Walters. He graduated from Winslow High School. He joined the Navy and served on the USS Ashland (LSD-1) from Sept. 1950 to June of 1954. LeRoy married Marian L. Hawthorne on December 23, 1954 in Martintown. LeRoy was a dairy farmer his entire life, retiring in 1999. He was a life member of Stuart-Schneider American Legion post #592 in Winslow, IL. LeRoy enjoyed going to the stock car races.
He is survived by his wife, Marian of Browntown; son, Frank Walters of Monroe; a daughter, Rosonda (Nick) Kieffer of Darlington; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Roy and 2 children in infancy, Rhodona Ray and a stillborn son.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 pm at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Memorials may be given in LeRoy's name to either Browntown First Response or Green County EMS. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
