Leon C. Rufer, age 92 of Monroe, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Community Living Options. He was born on August 20, 1920 in Green County, the son of Emil and Katherine (Legler) Rufer. Leon married Hazel Neuenschwander on November 26, 1944 in Monroe. Leon farmed all of his life, and at the same time worked part time for Adams Township for 55 years. He could fix anything and enjoyed it; loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his children: Gene (Joyce) Rufer of Monroe, Janet Wendler of Brodhead, and Kathryn (Daryl) Rupnow of Stoughton; a sister, Mabel Lehr of Monroe; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers: Alvin, Lloyd, and Emil Jr; a sister, Viola Rosenstiel; and a great-grandchild, Jaimi Arnsmeier.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Shriner Hager Gohlke funeral home with Pastor Michael Beil officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Funeral Home. A Memorial fund will be established in Leon's name.
