BLANCHARDVILLE - Leo Jacob Kainz, age 79 of Blanchardville died peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side on Thursday morning, December 8, 2011 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe after a short illness. He was born on September 4, 1932 in rural Blanchardville to John and Ethel (Schindler) Kainz. He attended school in rural Blanchardville. Leo served in the Army during the Korean war. He was married on October 12, 1957 in Kendall, Wisconsin to Joanne (Lydon) Kainz. He worked in Rockford in his earlier years, and then after he and Joanne settled in the Blanchardville area he worked at the Carnes company in Verona for 41 years until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville, and the Dobson-Johnson American Legion Post in Blanchardville. Leo was a Wisconsin sports fanatic. He never missed watching a Packer, Badger or Brewer game. He also loved western books and movies and going to casinos. Leo will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leo is survived by his wife, Joanne Kainz of Blanchardville; six children, Debbie (Dave) Johnson of Blanchardville, Laurie (Dave) Hughes of Blanchardville, Diane (Nate) Skattum of Blanchardville, Larry (Melody) Kainz of Dodgeville, Dave (Cheri) Kainz of Belleville, and Lonny (Tammy) Kainz of Pueblo West, CO; sixteen grandchildren, John (Marley), Jerome (Nicole), Adam (Rachel), Tracey (Kyle), Ryan (Vannesa), Derek (Shaina), Kyle, Jeremy (Kala), Courtney (Steven), Cassidy, Cammy, Justin, Jackson, Donovan, Mckay and Ciana; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jayden, Owen, Grayson, Nathaniel, Miranda, Briggz and Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Ethel Kainz; in-laws, Everett & Margaret Lydon; brother-in-law, James Lydon; and grandson Craig Hughes.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville with a prayer service starting at 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the church. Fr. Thomas Gillespie will be officiating. Burial with Veteran's honors will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
