Lavora E. Cook, age 93, died on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the New Glarus Nursing Home. She was born on August 20, 1918 in Platteville, the daughter of Oren and Pearl (Hooks) Rice. Lavora and Lawrence Cook were married on December 18, 1931 in Galena, IL. She worked for the Platteville Battery Company and later was the head cook at Pleasant View Nursing Home for over 16 years. For many years, Lavora enjoyed collecting dolls, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially spoiling her grand and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Karen) Cook of Janesville, Keith (Bea) Cook of TN, Steve (Sue) Cook of Brodhead, Dennis Cook of Monroe, Lyle Cook of Monticello, Michael Cook of Monroe, Carol (Ron) Loomis of Georgetown, FL, Marilyn Hoffman of Beloit, Cheryll (Russell) Warriner of Beloit, Cathy (Jeff) Gilbertson of Albany, and Connie (Michael) Pederson of Argyle; 36 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, also a sister, Fay (Carl) Millard. She is predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; sons, Cecile, and Lawrence and son in infancy; daughter, Myla Dalen; brothers, Clifford, Donald, and sister, Melva Buss.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery in Grant County. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
