BARNEVELD/BRIGHAM TOWNSHIP - Kenneth D. Powell, Jr., age 71 of Brigham Township, WI died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 26, 2014 as a result of a farm accident.
He was born October 6, 1942 in Barneveld, WI to Kenneth and Charlotte (Thousand) Powell, Sr..
He was married to Bette Jo Mentz on February 14, 1979 in Barneveld, WI. They farmed in the Barneveld area. He was an avid outdoorsman and was very involved in prairie restoration and land conservation in his retirement. He loved helping neighbors.
He served as President of the Quad County Coop Board in Blanchardville.
Ken was very family oriented and is survived by his wife: Bette, his children: Adrian (Bryan Sigrist) Powell of Harrisburg, Oregon, Nathan (Orlando) Smart Powell of Edgerton, Kenton (Angie) Powell of Monroe, Valerian (Amy Piaskowski) Powell of Madison, Karsten (Stephanie) Powell of Eau Claire, Tyler (Rayna Kluz) Powell of Madison, 13 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; a sister: Karen (Fred Myers) Powell Winterhaven, Florida, two brothers: Dennis (Vickie) Powell of Hollandale, David (Mary) Powell of Mt. Horeb, a sister-in-law: Jane Powell of Kenosha, a special family friend: Amber Mullett of Verona, a large extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, an infant sister: Rebecca Powell, maternal grandparents: Esther and John Thousand, and paternal grandparents: Henrietta and Rufus Powell.
A gathering for a celebration of Ken's life will be at 11:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Barneveld American Legion Post, 102 Wood St., Barneveld, WI. The ELLESTAD CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 500 N 8th St., Mt. Horeb, WI is serving the family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
