Kathryn "Kay" D. Tuescher

Kathryn "Kay" D. Tuescher, age 74 of Monroe, died on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on February 15, 1939 the daughter of Leo and Dorothy (Marty) Bartelt. She attended rural country schools and was a graduate of Monroe High School. Kay and John Tuescher, Jr. were married on January 18, 1958 at St. John's United Church of Christ, celebrating 55 years of marriage in 2013.

She lived and worked in the Monroe area all her life, working at the Monroe Country Club as a waitress, and later working at the Swiss Colony in different departments, with her last position as manager of maintenance and janitorial services. Kay played many roles throughout her life as wife, mother, cheesemaker, grandmother, friend, counselor, confidant, planner, organizer, leader orator and singer. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John's United Church of Christ where she was active with the ladies auxiliary groups. Kay and John were members of the Yesteryear Auto Club. She enjoyed organizing her class reunions and being part of the Countryettes Homemakers group. She enjoyed being part of the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary where she was president and co-chairman of the National Rural Letter Carriers Convention at Monona Terrace in 2000. She was also secretary for the Green-LaFayette rural letter carriers for 40 years.

She is survived by her husband, John Tuescher of Monroe; sons, Jeff (Julie) Tuescher of Browntown, Greg Tuescher of Waunakee; daughter, Kristi (Tom Griffin) Tuescher of Waterloo; grandchildren, Hailey Griffin of Waterloo, Margaret Griffin of Watertown, Amanda Griffin of Milwaukee; brother, Ole (Kathy) Bartelt of Monroe; nieces and nephews, Gretchen Bartelt Miller, Rachel Leverton, Samantha Isley, Katie Grossman, Michelle Richards, Mike Bartelt, Mark Bartelt, Tammy Babler, Roger, Larry and Danny Bartelt. She is predeceased by her parents; brothers, James and Gene Bartelt; daughter, Lisa Tuescher and special grandmother, Elsie Bartelt.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ with Rev. William T. Mike Heath officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr., Monroe. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Ladies group, National Historic Cheesemaking Center or the American Heart Association.
