Joyce (Montgomery) Mau

Joyce (Montgomery) Mau, age 82, of Monroe, formerly of South Wayne, was called to her eternal home on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

She was born on April 24, 1931 at St. Clare Hospital, the daughter of Clinton E. and Pearl (Pember) Montgomery. Joyce graduated from South Wayne High School in 1948. She then attended Green County Normal School for 2 years where she made friends for life. She received her bachelor's degree attending night classes and summer school at the University of Platteville. Joyce was a teacher and principal in the South Wayne, Black Hawk District for 44 years retiring in 1994.

Joyce and Buddy E. Mau were married on March 8, 1952 in Monroe at the Monroe United Methodist Church Parsonage. Joyce lived in the South Wayne area, until moving to Monroe in 2003 after her husband's death.

Joyce was always a member of the South Wayne Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was treasurer for many years. She loved dancing, especially to the Greg Anderson band. In her younger years she enjoyed playing ball, bowling and was a sports enthusiast.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Jeff) Edgerton, their family, Janelle and Joseph and great-grandson, Caston Buddy; son, Scott (Jennifer) Mau, and their children, Macy and MaKayla; brother, John "Jack" Monaghan; in-laws, Shelby (Don) Broege, Audrey (Merle) Adelman, Tom (Carol) Mau and Larry (Betty) Mau, whom she raised since the age of five. She also had nieces, nephews, and many friends who were special to her. Special cousins are JoAnn Hawthorn and Shirley Lindsay.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents; husband, Buddy; brother, Charles "Chuck" Montgomery; sister-in-law Virginia Monaghan; brother-in-law, Merle Adelman; dear friends Norma Trumpy, Helen Anderson and Bernita Rufenacht.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Monroe United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Booth officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in South Wayne.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Monroe United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Monroe United Methodist Church or Black Hawk Elementary School.
