Joe Wenger, 66, of Lufkin, Texas died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in a Lufkin hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home.
Mr. Wenger was born February 24, 1943 in Darlington, Wisconsin, to the late Norma (Cutler) and John Wenger. A former resident of Lena, Illinois, Mr. Wenger had resided in Lufkin, Texas for 26 years.
Mr. Wenger owned and operated Two Point Texaco in Lufkin, Texas for 10 years. He was a collector of antique McCoy Pottery, loved turkey hunting and fishing, and enjoyed anything outdoors, particularly gardening and yard work. Mr. Wenger enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Ginger. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carol Wenger of Lufkin, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynnette and Harold Hodges of Lufkin, Texas and Tracy Jo and Bobby Gillespie of Centerville, Texas; grandchildren, Joseph Gillespie and Samantha Gillespie, both of Centerville, Texas; brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry Wenger of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, John Wenger of Anchorage, Alaska, and James and Cindy Wenger of Huntington, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law, Judy Schoenberger of Ottawa, Illinois and Mary Jane and Norman Hellwig of Hudson, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wenger was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Wenger.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of the Memorial Specialty Hospital Unit in Lufkin, Texas.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, Illinois.
