Jean P. Drnek, age 75 of Monroe, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at University Hospital, Madison. Jean was born June 14, 1934 in Chicago, the daughter of Chester and Louise (Marquart) Pratt. She married Charles Drnek on November 30, 1957 in Chicago. The couple moved from Chicago to Tucson, AZ in 1987 and settled in Monroe in 2001. Jean worked as a restaurant manager in Chicago and as an apartment manager for an independent living complex in Tucson. She enjoyed various crafts especially woodcarving.
She is survived by her husband, Chuck Drnek of Monroe; two sons, John (Janet) Drnek of Joliet, IL, and Lawrence Drnek; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; a brother, Steven Pratt; and four sisters, Mary Lambrecht, Camilla Pratt, Janice Bansley, and Theresa Perkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Kurt Pratt; and five sisters, Clara Maynard, Constance Harlan, Margaret Pratt, Dorothy Colclasure, and Roberta Hale.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Father Michael Klarer officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post #84. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
