Jean E. Elmer, age 87 of Albany, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at her daughter's home. She was born on March 25, 1928 in Attica, WI, along with her twin sister and most treasured friend, June, the daughter of William and Alta (Crosgrove) Qualley. She graduated from Albany High School in 1946. Jean married Walter Elmer, her friend and love on August 27, 1946 in Albany, and together they raised two daughters, Linda and Rhonda. She was an amazing mother and grandmother, showing love, acceptance and pride for Craig, Ryan, Brandon, Rebekah and Sarah. Her great-grandchildren, Addi, Weller and Meadow, were too far away but always in her heart. Seeing them always brought her immense joy.
Jean worked at Oaktron for 23 years and Dormans Cheese Company for 9 years where she made many friends. Jean worked hard, helped others and enjoyed a bit of humor. She was always willing and happy to help others with cleaning and transportation to doctor's appointments. Her kindness, generosity and her amazing pies were treasured by all who knew her and will remain her legacy. She was a member of Albany Lutheran Church and Royal Neighbors.
She is survived by her husband, Walter of 69 years; a daughter, Rhonda Elmer of Fitchburg; son-in-law, Robert Mertes of Fitchburg; 5 grandchildren: Craig (Meredith) Mertes of Milwaukee, Ryan (Gretchen) Mertes of Seattle, WA, Brandon Schmid of Milwaukee, Rebekah Burns and Sarah Burns both of Madison; 3 great grandchildren: Addi, Meadow and Weller; 3 sisters: Vera Zimmerman of Monroe, Dorothy Derendinger of Monroe, and June (Kenneth) Blumer of Albany; 2 sisters-in-law, Rose Qualley of Monroe and Kathryn Jorenby of Janesville; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Linda Mertes; 2 brothers: Lowell and Russell Qualley; 3 sisters: Ruth Malkow, Verna Zimmerman, and Daphne Minder.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 16, 2015 at Albany Lutheran Church, with Rev. Byron Bunge officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery, Albany. A visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Albany Lutheran Church. EVERSON Funeral Home, Brodhead, is assisting the family.
