Jacqueline A. "Jackie" Whitmar, age 84, of Argyle, WI, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI. She was born December 18, 1929, in Dodgeville, WI, the oldest of John and Eugenia (Jensen) Meyer's five children. Jackie's family moved to a farm outside of Argyle in 1933, during the beginning of the depression. As she would say her family was poor farmers, just trying to get by. Jackie's family had to use stamps to buy food and shoes and would trade chicken eggs for groceries, which Jackie made mud pies out of one day and got in a heap of trouble for. She and her siblings would be brought on cold days to school by their father on a sled with a team; they would have him drop them off a block away, so they would not get picked on at school, but they still did. Even though Jackie grew up during the depression, she kept a strong and positive mind, which she continued to keep her entire life. She graduated from Argyle High School in 1947 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for two years. Following her schooling she worked as a Secretary at Evans Radio and TV in Madison, WI. Jackie was united in marriage to William W. "Bill" Whitmar on July 1, 1959 in Dubuque, IA. She then found a job at Green County in Monroe, where she worked as the office manager for 11 years. Finally, Jackie found her true calling when she accepted a job at the Argyle Public Library, where she worked for 41 years. After Jackie retired, the Village of Argyle held a special reception for her, where she received both a commemorative clock and a plaque in recognition of her services. She also received a congratulatory letter from the state for her services. Jackie was Swiss and Norwegian. She was very proud of her Swiss heritage, because she actually knew her grandparents that came from Switzerland.

Jackie is survived by her three sons: William W. (Nancy) Whitmar, II of Fulton, MO, Jon (Lori) Whitmar of Syracuse, IN, and Jim (Mary) Whitmar of Dodgeville, WI; five grandchildren: Van, Carter, and Gage Whitmar, and Emily and Susan Whitmar; two step-grandchildren: Ericka (Jason) Hillery and Robert (Jennifer) Russell; two brothers: Donald Meyer and John David (Leah) Meyer both of Argyle; and two sisters: Diane (Glen) Moen of Madison, WI, and Connie Schramm of Green Bay, WI; She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Bill on October 7, 2006; one niece: Morgan Schramm; and her aunt: Margaret Davis. Jackie was an avid reader of all types of books and played the piano and violin. She was also treasurer and head of the Senior Club in Argyle, where the ladies would get together every week at Irma's to have lunch and play Euchre. Jackie had a love for the Green Bay Packers, she had a mantra "I live and breathe the Packers!"
