Irvin K. Fernstaedt, age 93 of Monroe, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at his home. Irvin was born February 19, 1919 in Stephenson County, IL, the son of Herman and Emilie (Krupke) Fernstaedt. He graduated from South Wayne High School and married June Jordan on January 29, 1944 at the Peace United Church of Christ Parsonage in Browntown. Irvin and June farmed in Cadiz Township from 1944 until moving to Browntown in 1971. He was also employed as a custodian at Monroe Truck Equipment and worked as a carpenter for several years. Irvin and June maintained lawns and painted barns and homes for different families throughout the years. He was a longtime member of Staver St. Peters United Methodist Church, enjoyed gardening and maintaining his potato patch, was an avid baseball fan, and especially loved time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 68 wonderful years, June Fernstaedt of Monroe; three children, Kay (Leo) Buechner of Rock Hill, S.C., Daryl (Kari) Fernstaedt of Monroe, and Joann (Mike) Stewart of Browntown; seven grandchildren, Shelli, Amy, Teresa, Wendy, Josh, Kim, and Scott; nine great-grandchildren, Anabelle, Alex, Aaron, Reed, Elsie, Noah, Charlie, Evan, and Everett; three brothers, Les (Carole) of Loves Park, IL, Merlin (Mona) of Argyle, and Arden (Lois) Fernstaedt of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Bertie Fernstaedt of Baraboo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Eric Fernstaedt; a brother, Glenn Fernstaedt; and two sisters, Dorothy (Lyle) Metcalf and Elda (Pat) Burris.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Staver St. Peters United Methodist Church, Clarno Township, with Reverend Paul Gregersen officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family requests memorials be given to Staver Church, Wisconsin Badger Camp, or Monroe Clinic Hospice in Irvin's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
