LENA - A 19-year-old Illinois man was killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 20 West near the Village of Lena, according to a Stephenson County Sheriff's Office news release.
Michael Coleman, Hanover Park, Ill., was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, Justin Blazek, 19, Barlett, Ill., was airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital.
The drivers of the two other cars, Tina Buske, 43, Stockton, Ill., and Arsalan Uddin, 29, Glendale Heights, Ill., were transported to Freeport Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
Uddin was westbound on U.S. Route 20 West, west of Damier Road, at 8:16 a.m. when he passed another vehicle, the news release said. He lost control of his vehicle on the icy road and sideswiped an eastbound vehicle, driven by Buske. Buske lost control of her vehicle, crossed the westbound lane and hit Coleman's vehicle.
Uddin was ticketed for improper passing, reckless driving and driving too fast for conditions.
