Helen P. Rinehardt-Schmidt, 95, of Monroe died early Sunday evening at her home with her daughter at her side.

She was employed at Blum's Grocery Store in Monticello for 20 years before working 20-plus years at Brennan's Market in Monroe, a job she called "the best ever." She cherished the time working with and for the entire Brennan family and kept in touch with many of them over the years.

When not at work, she was an outdoor person who took great pride in her yard and her flowers. She was also an accomplished baker and shared her talents with neighbors, friends and relatives. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family and looked forward to their visits.

She was a member of St. Clare Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe.

Born January 21, 1921, in Juda, she was the daughter of Walter Otto and Ida Emma (Klatt) Stricker. She and Harlon H. Rinehardt were united in marriage on May 27, 1940, at St. Raphael Rectory in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple had three children, Dennis (deceased), Greg and Kathy. She later married Fred H. Schmidt on Aug. 13, 1968, at St. Victor's Catholic Church in Monroe.

She is survived by a son, Greg (Barbara) Rinehardt of Poulsbo, Wash.; a daughter, Kathy, Rinehardt of Monroe; four grandsons, Craig (Laurie) Rinehardt of Evergreen, Colo.; David (Laurie) Rinehardt of Estero, Fla.; Mark (Deb) Rinehardt of Janesville; and Vincent (Martina) Boles of Haustrauppe, Germany; two granddaughters, Kimberly Rinehardt of Olympia, Wash.; and Honora (Tony) Gerbeck of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; six great-granddaughters, Caitlin Rinehardt, Carly Rinehardt, Kristen Rinehardt, Zoe Koecke, Inez Gerbeck and Greta Gerbeck; one great-grandson, Jake Koecke; a brother-in-law, Harold Neuenschwander of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her son, Dennis; four sisters, Ida Schiess, Margaret Gempeler, Nellie Neuenschwander and Marie Stuessy; and two brothers, Fred Stricker and Willard Monte.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 3, at St. Clare Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Msgr. Larry Bakke officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday June 2nd at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in her name for St. Victor's School.

"Don't worry mom ... We will keep the yard mowed and the flowers watered."
