BRODHEAD - Helen E. Weidman, age 98, of Brodhead, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. She was born on September 7, 1915 in Davis, IL, the daughter of Homer and Alma (Peterson) Shelton. She married Dallas R. Weidman on December 7, 1936 in Marthasville, MO. He passed away on December 11, 2000.

Helen and her husband farmed in Oakley and the Stateline area for eleven years, moving north of Juda in 1948, where they farmed until moving to Brodhead in 1987. Helen was interested in all of the latest crafts and most recently, china painting. She loved traveling, being with family, especially grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with a very special friend, Millie Gruenwald. She was a friend of the Congregational Church, Brodhead. Her favorite time was celebrating birthdays with "The Cousins."

Helen is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Ned) Roth; a brother, Gene (Kay) Shelton; a daughter-in-law, Sonja Gilbertson; five grandchildren, Craig (Laura) Roth, Darren (Kathy) Roth, Julie (Charles) Champlin, Christine (Todd) Brikholz, Angela (Marty) Nelson; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Homer, an infant sister, Lucille, and two brothers, Lester and Leonard Shelton.

Private graveside services were held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Stateline Cemetery, rural Brodhead. The D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, assisted the family. Online condolences may be made at www.dlnewcomerfuneralhome.com
