Harold A. Huntington, age 86, of rural Darlington, WI, passed away at his home on Monday, January 23, 2012, surrounded by his family following a five year battle with lung cancer. He was born July 14, 1925, in Darlington, the son of Perle and Thelma Huntington. Harold lived and farmed in Seymour and Darlington Townships all of his life, graduating from Darlington High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to Diane Marty on September 17, 1949, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington, celebrating 62 years of marriage.
Harold is survived by his wife: Diane at home; four children: Randy (Judy) Huntington of rural Darlington, Cindy (Paul) Pluemer of Platteville, WI, Jayne (John) Doerfer of Verona, WI, and Betsy (Ed) Wiegel of Darlington; nine grandchildren: Lisa (Jimmy Reilly) Huntington, Laura (Tony Castle) Huntington, Tate Huntington, Adam (Christina Stone) Stanley, Aaron (Erica Reuter) Stanley, Jeff Wiegel, Janelle (Josh) Albrecht, Barry (Kristy) Doerfer, and Sondra (Kevin German) Doerfer; two great-grandchildren: Karly Stanley and David Castle; several sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Ralph Huntington; and one sister-in-law: Annie Huntington.
Harold was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and served on its church council. He also served three terms as a supervisor on the Darlington Township Board and was a 4-H Leader. Harold was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #171 of Darlington for 50 years, FSA Board, and Pecatonica Valley Antique Club. He was a square dance caller for many years for Pistols and Petticoats Square Dance Club in Platteville and for many other dances in Southwest Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Harold enjoyed restoring antique tractors, dancing, music, traveling, and gathering family history.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 339 East Louisa Street in Darlington with Rev. Dr. Connie Peake officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 508 Main Street in Darlington and also on Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
